We invite our members to join us for this year’s Bosom Pals Christmas Dinner.

The menu is here and the booking form is here, and we look forward to seeing you there!

  • Pie and Mash

Pie and MashInstead of a coffee meet up in October, we are planning on going to the Pilgrims Progress pub for lunch.

If you are interested in joining us on Oct 19th at 1pm , please let Brenda or one of the other committee members know.

Our 12 July meeting was a very interesting talk by Doug Pope about the history of Sharnbrook Mill Theatre.  There was plenty to tell us as there was a mill on the site before the Doomsday Book and several famous people have been involved with it now and in the past.

His wife Virginia is the wardrobe mistress, making many of the costumes herself from various sources such as bedding, old suits etc.  Members wishing to go to one of her talks at the actual theatre are asked to let Pauline or another committee member know so that we can have a list ready for when the next date is arranged.

Members may also be interested in going to see Cheshire Cats which is a comedy by Gail Young which is about a team of women walking their way to fundraising success in the London Moonwalk.  This is on 18th to 23 September.

Phantom of the Opera will be staged by the Youth Group Production and is on 14th to 18th November.

Tickets are available online from www.sharnbrookmilltheatre.co.uk

This registered charity (No. 1164960) was founded in 2015 by Fiona and her husband Andy.  Fiona and her daughter Francesca who has now joined the charity, met with some of the Bosom Pals committee for a coffee recently when they told us about themselves and the aims of the charity.

They have set up a comprehensive website where people and their families affected by cancer can access a variety of free offers donated by companies and these include things such as restaurant meals, hotel stays, theatre tickets, beauty/spa treatments, theme park tickets and much more.

To qualify for one of the benefits you need to be within 3 years of your diagnosis of any form of cancer and still be in possession of the letter telling you the bad news.  You have to send a scanned copy of this letter together with your application which is on their website.  Once your registration is approved you can choose your treat from the wide range offered all over the country.

If you, or someone you know, would like to take advantage of the things offered by this charity then go to their website www.somethingtolookforwardto.org.uk.  They also have a facebook page – Something to Look Forward To – and twitter – @look4W2 – where benefits such as theatre of event tickets are sometimes available at short notice.

Any members who wish to proceed but do not have access to a scanner or computer can contact me, Pauline, and I will help in processing the necessary online application.

Since the charity was launched in December 2015 it has given more than £40,000 in gifts and experiences to more than 800 people affected by cancer and their families.

Fiona went with her family to the Palace of Westminster on 6 July to receive the British Citizen Award in recognition of her outstanding efforts to make a change to communities.  Bedford Bosom Pals wish to congratulate her and say a big thank you for thinking of us all.

Bosom Pals Hand over £1003 cheque to the Primrose Unit

Following the successful fund raising Curry Buffet evening held in February at Indian Summer, Bosom Pals were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1003 to Karen Jackson, Manager  of the Primrose Unit and her staff.  Karen and her staff have decided to spend the money on new visitor chairs.  Chemo can take several hours and patients often bring a companion along with them to help while away the time.    The current visitor chairs are quite basic and can get uncomfortable after a short time, so the new chairs will enable visitors to feel more relaxed and the chairs will be more in keeping with the newly refurbished unit.
