Chairman’s Chat - winter 09/10

Isn’t it scary how time flies?  It only seems 5 minutes ago that we were taking down our Christmas cards and already we are into February.  The early months of this year have been so gloomy, combined with all the ice and snow we have experienced it can also be depressing, keeping many people at home and making normal day to day things like shopping quite difficult.  However, as I write this paragraph the winter sun is shining, although it is still quite cold and the snowdrops have started to appear in the garden.  So spring really is just around the corner.

I would like to thank our main sponsors for the last few years, Inverness Medical (previously Unipath), for their support, matching everything raised by their staff £ for £.  Beccy Morgan and the staff of Inverness Medical have been absolutely brilliant with their fund raising ideas and generosity.  It has been a very difficult time for many of them facing redundancy and closure of the Bedford site by April this year.  Read more about the latest fantastic cheque they handed over to us at our December meeting.

I hope you enjoyed reading the new section in our last Newsletter “Member’s Profile”.  We are hoping to continue this section and are delighted that Lorna Prosser has agreed to put pen to paper with her story.  I’m sure you will agree that it is a very positive and inspiring story and well worth a read.  We are looking for other members to volunteer to write their story, so all those budding writers out there please help us to keep the Newsletter interesting and original by submitting your profile for publication.

I hope you enjoy reading about what the group has been doing over the last 6 months and that you will see something in the programme that will encourage you to come along and join us on our meeting nights.

All that remains is for us to wish you and your families, a belated, Happy and most importantly, healthy 2010.

Enjoy the read …..
