CASTING FOR RECOVERY UK & NORTHERN IRELAND PDF Print E-mail

Casting for Recovery is a non-profit support and educational programme which provides fly fishing retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have had breast cancer throughout the United Kingdom & Ireland.

Casting for Recovery was founded in the US in 1996 and has since helped more than 2,500 breast cancer survivors.  It has now been bought to the UK & Ireland by the England Ladies Flyfishing Association.

The initiative is funded by the Countryside Alliance and all fly fishing equipment is funded by Orvis UK.  Our former breast care nurse, Gloria Shingler became involved with this project and attended the first retreat held in this country in September as the medical and psychosocial facilitator.  Jean Davies went along as her assistant and Adriana King went along as a participant.  The retreat was in the beautiful setting Duncton Mill in Sussex.

Three more retreats are planned:

  • 28-30 March 2008 at Lifton, Devon
  • 11-13 April 2008 at Builth Wells, Powys, Wales
  • 15-17 September 2008 at Duncton Mill Retreat, Petworth, West Sussex.

Applications for the first two retreats have now closed, but if you fancy learning a new hobby in a beautiful, tranquil setting in September visit the Casting for Recovery website www.castingforrecovery.org.uk and complete the on-line application
